COACH REQUIREMENTS
RESPECT IN SPORT - ACTIVITY LEADER
The November 15 deadline does not apply to this qualification! This certification must be valid prior to any bench/coaching staff being on the ice with a team and a coach will not be rostered without a valid RIS-AL.
This is required for all bench staff and is not the same certification as the Respect in Sport-Parent program.
If RIS-AL was taken in the 2020-2021 season (or before), it is no longer valid and re-certification to coach for the 2024-2025 season is required. To verify your RIS-AL expiry date, please check your HCR (Spordle) account or your Respect in Sport account.
To transfer a certificate from another organization to Hockey Alberta's coach program a person needs to go to https://ha.respectgroupinc.com and choose to register a new user. The first field at the top of the registration page is where they will need to enter their existing certificate number and click the “check” box. Once it has been validated they will just need to complete the registration and the certificate will be ported and updated to the HCR.
If you have any questions concerning the RIS-AL certification, please visit Hockey Alberta's website for more information.

Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
Glenlake Hockey coaches are required to complete an electronic Vulnerable Persons Sector Check (VSC) online through the Calgary Police Service. VSC allows applicants the convenience of applying online to submit their applications 24/7 from any location. Applicants can monitor the status of their application, any time, through their own personal account.
The process in which Vulnerable Person Sector Checks (VSC) are completed for volunteers has changed. Glenlake has purchased vouchers that will cover the cost of the VSC so no personal cost to the coach should be incurred for meeting this coach requirement. These vouchers are only available through the Glenlake Administrator. The ability to cover this cost is facilitated through Volunteer Alberta, Volunteer Alberta does not charge Glenlake nor does the Calgary Police Service charge Glenlake to process the police checks. Because of this arrangement, Glenlake does not reimburse coaches for the cost of a VSC.
Results are available in your account for 60 days from completion. Please make sure you download and save a copy within this timeframe if desired. Your certificate will not be accessible in your account past 60 days, however will be accessible if saved to a personal desktop or folder.
If your current VSC has expired please contact the Glenlake Administrator at admin@glenlakehockey.com, to obtain a voucher link to submit your VSC application.
If you run into problems completing the VSC process, please contact admin@glenlakehockey.com.
Thank you.
